Readers Based in Honduras

I found this recommended in a Facebook group for Spanish teachers. It’s always a good idea to preview a book before adding it to your library with your specific classroom and learners in mind!

Websites and Video Resources to Teach about Honduras

As always, I’d recommend checking these before showing them to your students. Just because it’s a good fit for one classroom doesn’t mean it’s a perfect fit everywhere! I’ve also tried to list where they can be found now, but we know the internet is always changing on us, so hopefully if they’re not on that host any longer it might be found through a quick Google!

Holidays and Traditions from Honduras

Looking to add a little sparkle to your Honduras unit? Teaching culture is so much more than maps and flags. Let’s talk fiestas. One vibrant way to bring Honduras to life is by exploring some of its most iconic holidays and customs.

You can start with La Feria Juniana, a giant celebration in San Pedro Sula that kicks off in June. Think colorful parades, traditional dances, live music, and street food galore. Your students can create posters, design their own parade floats on paper, or even do a mini cultural showcase.

Another standout is Día del Niño, celebrated on September 10th, where kids are showered with games, snacks, and fun. This is a great hook for a class discussion on how childhood is celebrated in different cultures. Tie it in with a writing prompt or even a “design your own festival” creative task.

Need visuals? Search YouTube for clips of Honduran parades or celebrations. A short video can do wonders to get students talking, especially in Spanish.

Easy Recipes are Great Resources to Teach about Honduras

Here’s a fun idea that always gets students engaged. Try a simple taste test activity to explore traditional Honduran foods like baleadas, tajadas, or horchata de arroz.

No cooking allowed? No problem, here is teh solution. Bring in ingredient visuals, do a reading activity with a recipe in Spanish, or challenge students to create their own menu from a fictional Honduran café. You could even turn it into a roleplay activity where they practice ordering in Spanish.

And if you want to go even deeper, check out a mini documentary or street food tour video to introduce students to the regional flavors and cooking styles. It is a super engaging way to connect language, culture, and real-life application.
