For the most part my students did fine with this activity. I enjoyed the webquest format and how it was presented in a map. It is a well thought out resource, but maybe it was just my students who were a little lazy on the open-ended sections.

I loved this idea and have purchased other webquests. I would’ve liked for the map to be in Spanish (I didn’t realized that the author had a separate activity that had the option to spanish) . The characters included were interesting, but I did added some extra that were more modern and students knew just to feel more connected to it.
Ashley Mikkelsen –
Hey Gaby! I’m so sorry you grabbed the English instead of the Spanish – you can pop in a ticket to TPT & they should be able to help you make an exchange for the product that includes both Spanish and English for the future!

I LOVED this resource. The students had to ultimately click on everything to get the answers and actually READ the material. One thing I would recommend for users if you have internet monitoring software is to disable their ability to move to a different screen. Several of my students wanted to “just google” instead of using the resource provided. Once I forced the issue by blocking other pages, they settled into the activity and enjoyed it!

Susanne A. –
I like that this includes all of the Spanish speaking countries that gained their independence around the same time in 1821. This could have more cultural influences as well as Hispanic or Latin Americans who made impactful influences in the world.
Ashley Mikkelsen –
Hi! I try to be thorough in my resource description so you can see exactly what is covered. This does include 10 different people and their contributions, as well as how they tie into culture, along with a view of the countries as you mentioned. If you’re looking for a more in-depth option for culture, I might suggest the field trips for food, music, or art that I have available! Thanks.

Urban Upstate NY Profesora –
The resource in the map was a great concept but the materials and content are redundant. There is not a great variety of people.
Ashley Mikkelsen –
Hi! Could you please clarify what you mean by “materials and content are redundant”? It’s not meant to be used sequentially, rather, concurrently. The handouts go with the map so the students use the pages as they navigate the map, so I could see how they would seem redundant if you did one, then the other? I’m not sure I understand, and I’d love to clarify to improve this resource in the future. I did update the description of the resource to include a detailed list of the markers included to hopefully help anyone considering this in the future to know what is included. I purposefully included a mix of people and countries on the map because my own students in the past have struggled with placing where countries are on the map as we talk about them so I wanted that to be an element of this activity as we learn about them! Feel free to shoot me an email (my address is in the download) if you’d like to discuss further! Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback.

Marta Tapia Freeman –
Thanks for such a great resource!
Julie C. –
I thought this would have more information on the google map, not just one picture and the flag. However, the short bios were useful and related to the graphic organizer for students to complete. My fifth graders found it quite easy. I also struggled to get the correct “permissions” from the orignal copy, due to county restrictions as the sellar warned, so please be careful if you purchase.
Ashley Mikkelsen –
Hey Julie! I just want to make sure – when you open the markers, you can click on the pictures and “arrow” over and then if there is more than one picture or a video, you can move between them. Hopefully you saw that & saw all that is in each marker! There are some that just have one, but several that have more! I also hope that the instructions to make your own copy of the map were clear enough, but if your county restricts access to Google My Maps that is something it sounds like your tech person was able to help with! Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback on the resource!

These are really cool interactive maps that are a way to change up how to “get” info out to students. I wouldn’t have the patience nor the wherefore all to know how to create this myself. Will keep purchasing these interactive maps so long as the topic(s) pertains to what I’m doing in class!

Cheryl A. –
THis product is awesome. The interactive map allows students to go at their own pace and figure out the information for themselvbes. My students could have done almost an entire block with this information. The product is full of information, pictures and even videos. There was an issue with my students being able to access the map (no google classroom in the district). I just projected the map and turned it into a whole class activity. It is not as great as individual, but it still works. Eventually, I was able to figure out how to allow student to use the map on their own. The product is genuinely inventive and my students loved it. It would be a great sub plan or distance learning (if you can create the worksheets or make your own).
Maria M. –

I love this resource! Thank you so much!
Rachel M. –
This is a fun activity that gives some students great context for geography of the places they are learning about for Hispanic Heritage Month. However, I think the map activity itself is not organized super well once you get into it. It gets a little vague, and my students struggled to some degree with knowing what activity/link led to the next part.
Dina A. –
This was perfect for a staggered return to in-person learning. I was able to assign it to both the in- person and distance learning students and we all could discuss afterwards! Gracias!

The links on the map are broken. No images come up when clicked on the sidebar of the map. For instance, no pictures of the historical figures or the flags of the countries.
Ashley Mikkelsen –
Hi there!
I just downloaded the map to double-check and everything appears as it should on my end. A couple of suggestions & questions for you..
1. Are you clicking on the markers on the map? That’s what causes the images and text to appear.
2. Have you cleared your browser history/cache or tried switching browsers?
3. Have you tried the steps I suggested in the notes page of the resource for if you have issues viewing the map?
Try those things – remember you can always contact me via the email in the resource as well. Thanks!
Abigail S. –

This was a decent activity for introducing HHM and basic Independence Day country facts. All of the information is in one place so it’s not really a webquest, but its a good interactive activity that kids can do independently.
