Description
Encourage your students’ puzzling power! This is great to get your students logically thinking while practicing the verb conjugations over and over! Students define the verb, then complete the puzzle. Every row, column, and mini-grid will have each of the subject forms of the verb. Just like regular Sudoku, there are a few filled in to get them started. You can use it as homework, in-class review, or could be great for a sub-plan activity! Answer key included!
Included:
❁ 1 Page with 2 Ser Puzzles
❁ 1 Page with 2 Tener Puzzles
❁ 2 Pages with the Ser and Tener puzzles mixed, in case you would like your students to practice both instead of just one or the other.
❁ Answer Keys
❁ 4 Puzzles Total!

Es un recurso muy original y motivador para practicar los verbos ser y tener de una forma diferente. El formato tipo sudoku convierte la práctica gramatical en un reto divertido, lo que aumenta la implicación del alumnado y reduce la sensación de “ejercicio tradicional”.

I had to teach my students how to play sudoku, but once they got it they loved the puzzle aspect instead of a ‘drill and kill’ activity.

I definitely always have to teach HOW to do the puzzle first too! It’s more of a rarity if one or two kids know how, but they enjoy the challenge once they understand. Thanks for the review!

My students had fun with these! They were so focused on the puzzle they didnt even realize they were internalizing verb conjugations!

My students loved doing this Sudoku! They asked me if we can do them more often because they enjoyed it so much. And I was happy becuase they were getting a ton of repetition with the verb forms!

I personally (as a student) would like this activity because although I am already familiar with the conjugations it causes me to slow down and think about them while I am trying to complete the puzzle. I got mixed reactions from my own students, and I think next time I will offer this as an option among a few different activities that practice the same content. I found that I had students who had already learned the conjugations fall into two groups: Those who liked having a simpler activity that they could just think about and analyze and those who found frustration in knowing the information but not being able to solve the puzzle– but that has nothing to do with the resource, just sudoku in general! I will simply be more thoughtful in how I give the assignment out next time. Good for students who like reasoning activities!

I find the same thing! I often offer the sudoku along with a Color by Conjugation activity, for the same reasons you mentioned. Some students like the logic puzzles, while some simply don’t! Occasionally, I like to work through the puzzles with them as a class so students who struggle with that kind of thinking get more practice. Thanks for your thoughtful feedback!

Cool idea and I think the students will enjoy. My only complaint is some typos in the instructions and some other minor details. I feel like this should be a freebie.

Thank you for pointing out the errors. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve used this for years in my own classroom and no one has noticed them! I’ve updated the file to correct them. I appreciate your feedback – please re-download for the updated file!
