Here’s how to share some Thanksgiving spirit into Spanish classes, without leaving the Spanish behind! you can either use these  activities as stations or just pick one or two for the week leading up to the holiday! They are perfect for reinforcing high-frequency vocabulary while still making space for culture. You can also mix in a little reading or listening to create a full mini lesson without needing extra prep.

Add a Gratitude Wall to Your Spanish Class

November is such a good time to bring a little gratitude into your Spanish class. Try setting up a gratitude wall where students can write one thing they are thankful for. They need to write it in Spanish, and they cannot repeat something already listed.

You can do this on Jamboard, Padlet, or even a shared Google Slide where each student gets one slide to decorate. If you are teaching in person, you can hang up chart paper and let students add sticky notes throughout the week. It makes for a great warm-up and helps students practice writing without it feeling like an assignment.

Add in some cute fall-themed clipart or autumn leaves for decoration, and you have yourself an easy activity that brings the season into your lessons in a meaningful way.

Try a Recipe Reading Activity

Food and fall go hand in hand, so why not bring that delicious energy into your classroom too? You can do a simple reading activity focused on Spanish-language recipes. I like using something fun and familiar like churros or pan de muerto.

Students read a short version of the recipe with labeled images, a list of ingredients, and a few steps. They can answer comprehension questions, highlight cooking verbs, or even match vocabulary to pictures.

If you are teaching virtually, you can take it up a notch by adding a video of someone preparing the dish. Students can follow along, then complete a few short answer questions. You can even ask them to write about a favorite recipe from home in Spanish and share it with a classmate.

It is one of those low-prep activities that still packs in reading, culture, and vocabulary. Plus, students love anything that involves food.
