Description

Your students will love this review for quarter one of Spanish class! Practice common Spanish 1 skills while learning about Day of the Dead all in one!

 

HOW IT WORKS:

Students can work in teams or individually to complete all 6 tasks. Each task is focused on an element of the ofrenda and includes a short description of its significance. As they complete each of the tasks, they will bring you their answers and you will quickly check them. If they are correct, you will hand them an element for their ofrenda (printed on the provided page) and the next task. They continue this process until all 6 tasks are completed and their ofrenda is decorated. When they finish, they are “Challenge Champions” and you can give them a prize or an award.

This is a great way to do a review for the end of quarter 1 in Spanish 1, while learning about Día de los Muertos!

    My students were highly motivated as they worked through each of the challenges. I paired this activity with my Breakout Boxes and used each of the sheets as a key to unlock the locks. They saved me so much time and energy because it was already high quality Spanish work for my students. They worked as a team and all I had to do was facilitate and assist as needed.     This was a really great resource. Please review ahead of time to make sure the students know all the material that will be covered in the different tasks. This activity took longer than I expected. I would plan on 2 days so the students can complete all the tasks. I ended up doing most of the tasks as a class activity on day 2 and still needed an extra day for all the students to complete their ofrendas. Perhaps place time limits. Some of the tasks can be completed in a short amount of time while others take longer. (Some students are very meticulous with their coloring…) I highly recommend this resource. The students really enjoyed completing all the work and making the ofrendas.

    This was a fantastic activity for my 8th graders! It reviewed all the material we have gone over during the first marking period (so perfect timing!) and they worked in small groups to complete each activity and build their ofrendas. It kept them engaged and learning even on the crazy days after Halloween and before our school’s fall break!
