This resource includes 24 short readings about famous people of Hispanic heritage written incomprehensible language. Each reading includes vocabulary supports at the bottom of the page to help your students be successful.

The readings are a basic introduction and personal description of each person!

This resource includes a scavenger hunt activity in Spanish and English for students to complete. Hang the readings around the room and let them walk and read, practicing their comprehension skills! It also includes a practice activity that has students compare themselves to one of the readings, highlighting similarities and differences, then re-writing the differences so they could be true for them. Lots of great ways to practice!

I used it as a homework assignment during Hispanic Heritage Month, and after reading students created a Venn diagram to compare themselves with one of the famous people. I would like to be able to edit the text to correct the small mistakes (Óscar, Hernández, la Reina de la Salsa).

    Both my students and I loved this activity! They loved being able to move around as they looked for the different people and felt very empowered that the descriptions were written in Spanish that they were actually able to understand. It was really helpful that all descriptions followed basically the same format so they knew what to expect, not to mention the vocab section at the bottom of each description with translations of the harder words they might not know yet, alleviated a lot of the stress that often comes along with reading something that is outside of the current textbook unit we are in. I also loved the that there was a True/False activity component (done on a Google Doc you can share) that we used the day after we did the “Gallery Walk” to kind of recap and make sure they really got the information down. Thanks again! This was great!

    THis was a great way to ease back into in-person learning. Would normally use this with level 1 but was perfect for level 2 where they were all at different proficiencies due to the prior year.

    I used this over parts of 2 class periods. I used them as laminated task cards taped around walls. Kids could work alone or with partners and they had a two-sided worksheet from the purchase. I liked that the side about similar/ diferente made them think and write. Fast finishers were supposed to do the Boom cards that went with it. That gave them extra practice in a more focused way because sometimes I think they cruise too fast through the Search without reading the whole card. I also had my TAs make the cards into a few mini-books for my class library. So many good things to use in this product. Oh, and I also put a few slides in my daily slides to practice reading and listening.

    Great activity for reading comprehension. Vocabulary review. I taped the information of the different characters around the classroom, so the students where walking around, it was fun. I made it a competition, it was really fun. as an extra and follow up activity we did a compare and contrast activity.

    I appreciate the basic readings that challenged my students to comprehend and find the correct answers. I did fail though as I first had the students do the Google Slides true/false activity (which was AMAZING practice for them!) and then had them do the scavenger hunt. I didn’t realize the scavenger hunt and the readings were in the same order so I will have to change that for my next set of students. I would suggest maybe putting something in the notes to mix up the readings before posting them around the room because I totally would have put them in the order they are displayed.

    I used the biographies as a reading activity to provide a review of adjectives. Students were asked to sort the people by birthday, by contribution (musician, actor, politician, etc), and hair color and style. I also used some of the biographies another time to review the difference between introducing yourself and introducing another person. Thank you for a wealth of easy-to-understand readings.

    This was very well-done and thorough by the author. I wanted to use this with the preterite and a theme I have been doing about heroes, so I typed up my own slides where I had the students conjugate ir/ser. I used this author’s stories, but just inserted blanks for ir/ser so the students could put in the preterite form. Then, I had them do the interviews. I thought the students really seemed to enjoy this part.

    My students love using these as gallery walks. They grab a partner and move around the room, discussing and translating. The character images are cute, the descriptions are interesting and I like that there is a word bank to help with those tricky words.     These are awesome! So easy to use. Print, hang, and let students walk around in small groups to record information. I told them, sure it’s easy to look at the paragraph, skim it and respond to prompts, but I encouraged them to READ IT OUT LOUD, taking turns at each person. Worked well. Nice way to expose students to more ADJ/descriptors.

    The products you create are not only visually stimulating, but they are also fun and comprehensible. I love that this product, in particular, is geared toward beginning learners and has a variety of uses, meaning you don’t just “do the lesson” and be done with it. After doing the activities, you can use the readings as mentor texts or create a new book for your FVR library. It gets kids up and moving while interacting with the language, culture, and one another. All of my classes (except one) have over 40 students – the time you have saved me in creating something similar, myself, is greatly appreciated!!
