Description

These short readings are a great way for your students to get lots of input! This resource includes 24 short readings about famous people of Hispanic heritage written in a comprehendible language. Each reading includes vocabulary supports at the bottom of the page to help your students be successful. The readings are a basic introduction and personal description of each person! This resource includes a scavenger hunt activity in Spanish and English for students to complete. Hang the readings around the room and let them walk and read, practicing their comprehension skills! It also includes a practice activity that has students compare themselves to one of the readings, highlighting similarities and differences, then re-writing the differences so they could be true for them. Lots of great ways to practice!

Students walked from reading to reading to fill out the scavenger hunt, and did an admirable job.     Most of my 3rd/4th graders have been taking Spanish since pre-K and so, after a review of cognates and an introduction of soy/eres/es, I had them get up and move around the room while working on this. They were engaged and definitely challenged, but they were allowed to work together. It helped that students recognized a few of the people and could rely on background knowledge.
