One of the first signs of winter are snowflakes and snowmen. They seem to suddenly appear everywhere you look – decorating yards and porches and storefronts, too. If you are looking for some great way to bring some fun winter activities for Spanish in your middle school or high school classroom, I have some wonderful ideas for you! As the weather cools down, the classroom energy heats up. With snowflakes outside and excitement in the air, winter is the perfect time to lean into playful, purposeful Spanish activities.

Movie Talk as Winter Activities for Spanish Class
You all know I love a good movie talk! This one is perfect for the winter season. It’s about a snowman is just dreaming of warmer weather – talk about relatable! It also has a pretty sweet ending.
Bonus idea: Before watching, give students a set of prediction questions using simple present tense verbs. Afterward, follow up with a quick retell activity in pairs or have them draw a comic strip summarizing the story. These small add-ons make a big difference in retention! Click here to check it out!
Verbos Nievos
Let your students practice new verbs or review old ones with Verbos Nievos! Students write an infinitive in the middle of a snowflake, then conjugate the verb on the snowflake. Ready to turn conjugation practice into a flurry of fun? With Verbos Nievos, your students pick a verb, write the infinitive right in the center of a snowflake, and then conjugate it all around the edges. Think of it as turning grammar into a snowstorm of learning. Add markers, glitter pens, or colored pencils, and suddenly your classroom looks like a festive winter verb blizzard.
Want to level it up? Turn their snowflakes into a hallway display or door decoration and let them show off their snowy Spanish skills. It’s a cozy, creative way to sneak in review while making your classroom sparkle a little brighter.
Countdown to Winter Break
This time of year it’s hard not to be antsy and look forward to our longer break! I love this classroom display that’s simple and fun to celebrate how many days you have left until descanso! You can make it interactive by having a student update the countdown each day as part of your morning routine or bell-ringer. Use a mini whiteboard, a paper chain, or even sticky notes shaped like snowflakes or presents. It adds a little excitement to each day, keeps everyone smiling, and gives students (and let’s be honest, teachers too) something fun to look forward to as the break gets closer.
(Mid)Winter Break Writing Activity
This resource makes up a big part of my first day back from winter break plans! Students write and (in some classes) draw about what they did over break. I also have a version that I use with my Spanish Is to write about what they are going to do before they leave for break! This writing activity is a very simple one! Students decorate their snowman, adding hair, eye color, and clothing. Then, students write a description of their snowman that includes physical descriptions, personality traits, and describing the clothing they have drawn.
To add a little movement and community, turn it into a gallery walk!
Once students finish their writing and snowman art, hang them around the classroom or hallway. Give students a clipboard and a short response sheet where they write down their favorite snowman name, a description that made them smile, or a verb they recognized in someone else’s writing. It’s a simple way to celebrate their work while reinforcing language in a low-pressure, engaging way.
Snowman Listen, Write, Draw
This is one of my favorite winter activities for Spanish class! In this snowman listening activity, students show comprehension by drawing what they understand in the target language! I love a listen, write, draw for a simple day full of student learning that gives me a break. Students illustrate the meaning of each sentence they hear, including colors! This is an easy option for Google Slides! Students click present to play and then select their answers, getting instant feedback if they choose the incorrect response. This free download includes 30 questions to review AR verbs in the present tense for your Spanish students. Check this resource out here.
Try this too: Use this as a warm-up or fast finisher activity. You could even pair it with a printable verb chart and ask students to highlight the verbs that gave them the most trouble for a personalized review the next day.
