Very interactive and kept the kids engaged. I would recommend doing expansion activities with videos on the different traditions and topics so they get a better idea. This gives a great basic intro to the concepts in a wonderful engaging way and works well as a supplement to a bigger more in-depth lesson.

This interactive map is such a great way to incorporate culture into the classroom! 41. Marcy W. –

Overall, the students learned a lot about Carnaval. On the other hand, they reported that the videos were missing/weren’t working. Therefore, I encourage the author of the resource to make this correction, and to make the resource even better!

    • Ashley Mikkelsen –

Hey Marcy! Thank you for your feedback. I do check the videos regularly leading up to the holiday to keep an eye on that! Is it possible the students weren’t clicking the arrows right/left to see the videos, or that the network wasn’t loading correctly? If you want to reach out to me at ashley@srtaspanish.com I’d love to hear more about what your students were experiencing to make sure no one else runs into it! Thank you!

  90. Susan B. –

Thank you for the hard work that went into this! I’m using it in my Spanish 1 classes this week, and my students are thoroughly engaged. The only thing I would change, and this is really a minor quibble, I would keep the spelling of Carnaval throughout the readings rather than using the English Carnival. Also, Colombia is not spelled with a u.

    • Ashley Mikkelsen –

Thank you so much for your feedback! I went through the map and updated all terms to be consistent with “Carnaval” instead of using both, and corrected my spelling error! Thank you again for letting me know! You do not need to re-download the file, as the changes were made on the map. If you haven’t made a copy for your own, that is updated automatically!
