I was absent the first 2 days after winter break. This provided the perfect activity for my Spanish 1 high school students. Thank you!

  4. Mary K. –

This was a great way to keep learning when the students are getting antsy before a break. I appreciate that I could use this resource in Spanish or English or a mix depending on the level of each particular class I used it with. The videos and pictures helped them really see and understand the different traditions.

  5. Marie P. –

  10. Christina G. –

This was a great supplemental resource to review cultures.

  11. Cristina E. –

I used it with my Sp 3 before starting the review for the midterm exam. It was great for decompressing and a great way to learn about Christmas traditions in just 1 class (because I don’t usually have the time to cover the topic before midterms)

  12. Shin’s Specials –

My students and I love this activity! I have one piece of advice for new users: model, model, model!!

Once I walked the kids through the map and made sure they had the skills necessary to find the wealth of information contained within, they were really engaged. I’ve used this type of resource as a sub plan without first walking them through a few questions together, and it did not work well for my average to low students, who were overwhelmed with so much information without step-by-step instructions on how to find each answer. My high flyers enjoyed exploring at their own pace, but most of my 6th-9th grade students need much more guidance before they are able to complete this without getting frustrated and losing patience. Modeling how to navigate both the map and the answer sheet really helped my students gain confidence and comfort.

Here are the pieces of info that seemed to make the assignment easier for my students:
*how I would do it – by randomly clicking and reading
*how a more organized mind might explore the map – by clicking each thing in the sidebar in order from top to bottom
*how to find the easiest questions first – the ones with the name of a country listed in the question!
*which types of questions will need info from several different pins
*how to find extra pictures and videos when there is more than one per pin

Students who’ve used these successfully before love them, so I just make sure I give solid instruction before leaving as a sub plan.

    Thanks for sharing!

  15. Angie Trowbridge –

A good resource! I would suggest going through on your own first to help you spot possible areas of confusion that your kids might have (this one had a couple of areas), but worth the purchase!

    • Ashley Mikkelsen –

Hi Angie! Just double checking that this feedback was meant for this resource? I’ve never used the virtual field trip in an escape room style set up, so if that’s what you did I’d love to hear more about how you used the map that way!

  16. Kathleen V. –

My students enjoy seeing the maps and being able to click around to learn more about the culture in the countries!

Great resource! Well organized and helped students understand the topic better!.

  27. PAULA CLEMENTE –

Interactive maps is a great way to bring culture to the room. It is an activity you can use at the beginning of a topic to introduce something or at the end as a review. Great for in person or online or great for when you need a sub!

  28. charlene crooks –

It was good. I used parts of this when I taught my unit, Holidays Around the World.

  29. Patricia M. –

Stuedntys like the activity, specially because it was online, the problem was more like technichal due that some of them had problems to download the maps. More related to filters from our district due that students use school devices.

    • Ashley Mikkelsen –

Hi Patricia! I’m glad to hear that your students enjoyed the activity. It is a bummer to hear that your school had some filters that made it a bit tough to navigate to the map. I try to make that clear how important it is in the description, and hopefully you found the page with technical support in the download useful! Thank you for downloading this resource!
