Description

Help your students navigate the maze of Preterite and Imperfect! These maze activities give students engaging practice in choosing between the preterite and imperfect tenses, as well as conjugating forms of the verb in each! Correct answers lead them closer to the end of the maze, while incorrect answers can wind up in a dead-end, forcing students to revisit their answers and think about things again! This could be used in class as independent practice, for homework, or would be an excellent file to leave for a substitute. Answer key included that can be projected for students to self- correct.

There are two versions of the worksheet. One is the basic maze for students to practice choosing. The second version builds upon that activity by asking them to explain their reasons, then do some additional practices with the remaining boxes! There are two different mazes included so your students could do this once in class and once for homework or however you choose!

    The maze was a good idea and some students followed through quickly, however, when they finished and I told them to do the rest of the worksheet, we found several errors. I know the directions said “they may lead you astray” but I think it could have had some other manner to create an actual maze path, maybe broken lines and not incorrect options. I would want to alter this before using again.

      Hi Trisha!

      Those incorrect answers are there on purpose so students can find their way and have 1 correct path for you to grade. Those incorrect pieces are an extension activity, not a mistake. I have a note in the file download that explains that it’s important for the third step (completing the other boxes on the worksheet) that they do not choose from the “paths” of the maze- they need to write the correct answer. If those pathways were not incorrect options and were marked as broken lines, then the path through the maze would be clearly highlighted for them and the students would not have to do any work at all to find their way through.

    Loved this activity as a review for my Spanish 3 kiddos. There was one mistake, however. Vivo should be vivio as it is an ir verb. I can’t write in accents, but the “o” should keep the accent mark :). This is a correction for “Por un ano, mi familia (vivir) en un apartamento en el centro.”
