This reading activity is a great way to practice time and obligation with your students in Spanish!

 

This resource includes a two-page reading about a boy who is having a terrible day written in comprehensible language. The reading includes vocabulary supports at the bottom of the pages to help your students be successful. The boy is going from class to class and just can’t catch a break!

This resource includes two pages of comprehension activities in Spanish for students to complete after reading the story, as well as an activity to create a timeline of events. The timeline helps them focus on the hours and minutes included in the story!

 

It also includes a page of teacher notes explaining how I use this in my classroom. Lots of great ways to practice! It would also make a great sub plan!

It is at a level where it motivates them as it has basic concepts we have previously practiced but engaging as it allows them to learn new vocabulary. They enjoyed the story’s end.

    This is such an amazing resource when teaching Avancemos 2.1 with class schedule vocab and the verb tener. This activity took us a few days to complete, which was awesome since I was able to read the story out loud to them several times. By the end of these activities, they understood the story very well. The activities at the end also allow students to expand their thinking and use their creativity.

    This was a great story to use while we are learning “tener que.” I would like to have purchased it in an editable format. It was a little long for my students ability so I did change some of the story around. That was time consuming. A Google Drive resource would have been perfect.

    My students loved this story. They all said that they could relate. What made it more relatable is the fact that everyday we do a “¿Cómo estás?” segment of the class. Sometimes students will ask, “¿Por qué?” and that is how the story ends.

    My students enjoyed the story. I didn’t have a lot of time so I had the class work 5 minutes on their own, 7 minutes with a partner, and then 15 minutes with a quad. At then end we did a quick exit ticket on post-its. Which activity were you most confident about? Which activity was the most challenging? Which activity did you need more time to complete? Answers were varied but it gave me insight into individual students strengths and struggles.
