Weekend chat is one of my favorite weekly routines. I usually do it both Friday and Monday! Some days it’s nice to just do something digitally that’s a little lower key, and sometimes we need a digital option for distance learning or a virtual classroom. Here are some digital weekend chat ideas you can use in your Spanish classroom!

Boost Engagement with Digital Stickers

If your students light up when something feels a little more fun and a little less formal, digital stickers might be your new favorite tool. These work great for weekend chats because they give students a quick, visual way to share about their weekend while practicing key vocab
Try adding stickers like fui al cine or comí pizza into a Google Slide or Jamboard. Students can drag and drop what fits their weekend and then build a short sentence around it. You’ll be surprised how much more eager they are to participate when they can express themselves visually
This also works beautifully for warm-ups or wrap-ups. Want to level it up? Add in a few silly or totally random sticker options and challenge your students to use them in context

Make it a Weekly Meme Challenge

Another fun way to breathe new life into your Digital Weekend Chat Ideas is by adding a meme challenge to the mix. Share a meme template at the start of the week and ask students to create a Spanish caption based on what they did over the weekend
This is a great way to build writing fluency while giving students creative freedom. Keep it low stakes and high energy. The funnier or more relatable the better. These little snapshots of student life can turn into a class slideshow or even a weekly vote for the best meme
Plus it’s a sneaky way to reinforce vocabulary and sentence structure while tapping into what students already love
Try pairing this with your digital convo cards or Jamboard prompts to build even more momentum in your classroom routine.
