How to Play this Spanish End of the Year Activity

Try This Creative Spanish End of the Year Activity with an Artsy Twist

If you’ve already played the “This or That” game in your classroom, you know it’s a total crowd-pleaser. But here’s a fun upgrade — turn it into an art-inspired Spanish end of the year activity. It’s the perfect way to mix culture, vocabulary, and creativity without adding a ton of prep to your already-packed schedule.

Imagine students choosing between two artists or famous works. Try questions like ¿Prefieres a Frida Kahlo o a Diego Rivera? or ¿Te gusta más el arte moderno o el arte tradicional? Have them respond by moving, raising hands, or writing quick responses in Spanish. Suddenly, they’re reviewing vocabulary, expressing opinions, and soaking up culture, all while having fun.

If you want to extend it further, challenge students to create their own “This or That” questions based on artists they’ve learned about during the year. It’s a fantastic way to sneak in one last review and showcase what they’ve picked up along the way.

How to Play This or That Game

It’s low prep, super flexible, and easy to adapt for different levels or class energy. Whether you want a quiet writing day, a high-energy movement break, or small group conversation, this game has your back.

And when you layer in a little cultural or artistic twist, you’re not just filling time, you’re ending the year with intention. So go ahead, bring the fun, bring the art, and let your students leave feeling confident, connected, and maybe just a little proud of how far they’ve come.

Ways to Play this Spanish End of the Year Activity

There are a few different ways you can play this game with your classes. Which you choose will depend on classroom management, class size, and the time you have available to play. Here are some options:

  • Project and Play – present the slides and let your students move from one side of the class to the other to show their opinions. You can have them explain (in Spanish!) or just keep going, depending on their language level.
  • Project, Play, Write – some classes do better when they’re not up and moving. In this variation, you project the slides and students play along on the handouts. You can have them raise their hands, choose a student to share out, or just compare with a partner each round.
  • Walk and Talk – Walk and ask classmates what they prefer using the handouts
  • Small group conversations – draw a card, answer
  • Walk and Write – Hang on the wall and students visit the cards and answer the questions using the writing sheet

Any way you choose, this is a fun one to get your students talking in Spanish and share their summer excitement! You can play all of the cards at once, or you can do a few prompts at a time. Up to you!
