Drawing in Spanish with Ehlke Art

From her channel, let’s meet Lori!

Can’t draw? I’m here to help! Here are some step-by-step videos to help you learn to draw and paint at any age. Follow along and before you know it, you’ll be creating all kinds of fun pictures that you never knew you could.

Lori Ehlke is an artist and art teacher and has enjoyed teaching art for the past 13 years to all ages. Her favorite thing to do is paint watercolor portraits of people and their pets. Lori hopes to inspire others to try art and enjoy the process.

About Ehlke Art

Her channel has a whole playlist of videos for drawing in Spanish! I’ve linked the playlist above for you to check them out. She has some videos that could be used at any time, like this Dibujo un gato video, and some that are more seasonal, like this Dibujo una calabaza video.

Drawing in Spanish Sub Plan

If you wanted to use her video(s) as a sub plan, you might need to leave more than just the video! Some of them are longer than others, none of them are 40 minutes long so they won’t go a whole class period. Some thoughts for extension activities:

  • watch & record all the words you understand
  • write the translation for those words
  • watch and follow along while you draw as she draws
  • color your completed drawings
  • write a story using your drawing as a main character

Read and Draw in Spanish

This activity is something you can do with any reading, and you don’t even have to make copies – it’s that simple!

Students read (or re-read) the selection you provide for them. Then they illustrate the story to show their understanding!

If you’re looking to extend this activity, there’s a few options for you:

  • have students cut up their drawings and share them with each other, putting them in order
  • students put the drawings back in order and retell the story out loud as they do so
  • students trade again, put the drawings in order onto another sheet of paper, then write a sentence to describe each scene
  • if you have a document camera, you could project scenes drawn by students and narrate them for the class
  • take pictures of the students’ drawings and project them on Slides
  • use them in Reverse Running Dictation
