If you are working on irregular verbs with your Spanish classes then you know several of present tense verbs are stem changers! Working on stem changing verbs can be tricky with your high school Spanish students, so let’s look at how to play this stem changing verbs Spanish review game!

Stem Changing Verbs in Spanish List
It can be hard to practice stem changers when your students are first introduced to them! In this post, we’re going to look at a stem changing verbs Spanish review game for E-IE, O – UE, U -UE, and E-I stem changing verbs. You may choose not to introduce all of the stem changers at once, and instead just look at a few. In this stem changing verbs Spanish review game, I’ve included:
- jugar
- cerrar
- comenzar
- empezar
- dormir
- pensar
- querer
- perder
- preferir

Let’s take a look at the game!
Corre en Círculos Stem Changing Verbs Spanish Review Game
This is one of my favorite Spanish conjugation games! It’s such a great review game to get your students up and moving around the room as they play this scavenger hunt style game. Students read the prompt on the bottom of the page, record their answer on a piece of paper, then move around the room to find the correct answer on the next sheet on the wall and complete the next prompt until they finish the circle.
How to Set Up Corre en Círculos
Set up for this review game is really simple. If you’re doing the printable version, it’s just a few steps:
- print the PDF file
- cut the clue cards in half
- hang them in random order around your room
That’s it! You can choose whether or not to make copies of the student answer sheets from the PDF file. I usually just have students number 1-25 on a page in their notebook. That way, they have something to write on as they’re moving around the room!
Of course, you can always use the digital version, too! In that case, the prep is simple:
- add the digital copy to your Google Drive
- share it with your students in a secured learning management system (anything that they have to log into is perfect!)

How to Play Corre en Círculos
To play, students will start at any half sheet of paper around the room. I encourage them to spread out since it doesn’t matter where they start.
Then, students look at the prompt in the smaller font on the bottom half of the page. With this stem changing verbs Spanish review game they’ll see a prompt that looks like “subject pronoun – infinitive”. Take a look at the example pictured below:

On their answer sheet or notebook paper, they’ll record the verb conjugated for that subject pronoun.
Next, they’ll walk and look around the room until they find their answer in the larger font on the top of the page. When they find it, they complete the prompt on the bottom of that page on their answer sheet.
They continue moving from sheet to sheet until they’ve found their way back to the beginning (thus, circle!).
That’s the basic way to play this scavenger hunt, but there’s a lot you can do with the clue cards if you want to mix things up. Check out 10 ways to play this scavenger hunt game with your classes in the blog post here!
