It’s not really winter until the first snowfall! It seems with that first chilly white blanket, the world is transformed into a winter wonderland! There’s no reason not to bring that seasonal joy into your Spanish classroom this year! Movie Talk

You all know I love a good movie talk! This one is perfect for the winter season. It’s about a snowman is just dreaming of warmer weather – talk about relatable! It also has a pretty sweet ending. Click here to check it out!

(Mid)Winter Break Writing Activity

This resource makes up a big part of my first day back from winter break plans! Students write and (in some classes) draw about what they did over break. I also have a version that I use with my Spanish Is to write about what they are going to do before they leave for break!

Build a Snowman (and describe him!)

Winter Story for Spanish Novices

This short reading is a great way to practice quiere, le gusta, & winter vocabulary in Spanish! It’s about a boy who wakes up to a snowy day and just wants to play – but most of his friends are busy having other kinds of wintry fun! Oh no!

Take Your Class on a Virtual Winter Escape

Surprise your students with a virtual field trip to see how winter looks in different parts of the Spanish-speaking world. Imagine showing them how December means sunny beach days in Argentina or festive fireworks in Colombia. This activity works great with Google Earth or even a simple slideshow with bright visuals.
After exploring, have your students compare their own winter with what they “visited.” Prompt them with questions like ¿Qué celebraciones hay en este país? or ¿Qué comen durante el invierno?
It’s the perfect mix of culture, comprehension, and conversation. Students get excited when they realize not everyone is stuck scraping ice off their cars.

Winter Playlist – Spanish Style

You know how a good song can totally change your mood? Let’s use that magic in your classroom. Ask students to create their own winter-themed playlist using music from Spanish-speaking artists. They can find cozy or festive songs on YouTube or Spotify and put together a list that feels like hot chocolate for the soul
Give them a couple classics to start with like Blanca Navidad or Los Peces en el Río and then let them explore. Once they’ve picked their songs, have them write a few sentences in Spanish about each one.
Why did they choose it? What does it make them feel?
This is one of those sneaky activities that feels like fun but actually builds vocabulary, emotional expression, and cultural awareness. Plus you get a soundtrack for the week that isn’t just instrumental holiday loops.
