This activity is great for reinforcing geography while learning about culture! It would also be a great sub plan.
Students will need devices and access to the internet to be able to use the map. The videos are hosted on YouTube. Please verify that your school allows access to Google My Maps and YouTube before purchase to be able to fully utilize this resource.

This worked well in my middle school exploratory and heritage language classes during a food unit. I had my 6th and 7th grade students use the English version and my heritage speakers use the Spanish version. I liked how this introduced students to a variety of foods and also reinforced the geographical piece of where different Spanish-speaking countries are located. I did modify the graphic organizer a bit before I gave it to students, adding in a spot for them to write a brief description/list of ingredients so they would remember what the food was later. I like these virtual field trips because they give me a minute to breathe and allow me to circulate the room and talk and connect with kids.

Just Spanish Things –
Loved this resource! I used the Spanish version with my level 1 students which was definitely challenging for them at times but I reminded them to look for the main idea of the foods they chose and to use wordreference.com when needed/consult a neighbor/ask me. They were very intrigued by the variety of selections on the map and that the activity was interactive. I like the digital/paper combination since many of my students forget to submit things digitally, I could see them writing on their paper and knew they were truly completing the work.
