Description

Get your students moving with this activity! Students answer the prompt, then find the answer around the room. When they find the answer, they go to it, and complete the next prompt, repeating until they have completed the circle! Some students like to race to see who can finish the loop fastest, others work at their own pace. Students can begin at any prompt and practice, checking their work as they go. This activity has students read the sentences in Spanish, and record the meaning in English, moving around the room.

The activity works like this:

  1. Students read sentences in Spanish and record the English translations.
  2. When they finish the loop, students cut apart their answers.
  3. Students match their English pieces to the story in Spanish to put it in order according to the student sheet.
  4. Students illustrate sentences from the story to show comprehension.

The vocabulary is basic, and the verbs used are high frequency, so it’s the perfect practice for any group working in the past!

    We have several “core en círculos” activities. What sets this one apart is that students have to find meaning in sentences rather than just conjugations of one word. This one was really fun while also being a little challenging for my students. It was just the right amount of challenge for my Spanish 2 students!

This one was different from normal which I liked – especially because if you had it in order, it would be tough for them to get the whole story. My students thought the story was weird until I asked them why she might have gone to Best Buy to get a mouse and then they understood a little better.

    I used this when tutoring an 8th grade Spanish II student who has just started to learn the imperfect. I have loved using Corre en Circulos both in my classroom and when tutoring, and I like how this one is unique in that it involves a TPRS type story with high-frequency verbs. I had my student sort the English translations by whether they would be in the preterite or imperfect tense, then reviewed the verbs in Spanish, and then had him do Corre en Circulos by putting the cards in order.

    I used this resource after learning about Preterite and Imperfect. It helped the students see both verb tenses and decide which one fit best in that sentence. It required them to use the rules they learned and pick correctly. If they didn’t, they would end up back on the word they started with. It took some thinking on their part, and it was challenging for them, but it was a great activity.
