Valentine’s Day can be a sweet holiday to celebrate! I have a post here where I shared a bunch of Valentine’s Day Activities for Spanish class, but I felt like this activity deserved its own post because it relies on one of my favorite strategies! Check out this Valentine’s Day Movie Talk for Spanish class!

A Movie Talk is a fun way to get in something seasonal, without taking away from the content you “need” to cover. The beauty of a Movie Talk is that you can talk about pretty much anything in the clip, so you can make it fit a lot of targets! If you’re not familiar with a Movie Talk, check out my post here for more info on how to get started!

The Plan:

  1. Students complete the warm up activity on their computers. You could also do this as a whole group and just discuss along the way!
  2.  Movie Talk using Slides – You can easily just play and pause the video to narrate what is happening, but my screen isn’t super responsive. I love using the screenshots because I know the image is going to be right where I want it!
  3. Watch the full video, with sound. It’s not even 4 minutes long, but it’s great!
  4. Student Re-Write – use the printable comic and let students retell the story in their own words! You could also just project the images.

All of those resources are editable, so of course feel free to edit for your students’ levels. I kept it to really simple language with Spanish 1s in mind, but I think there’s some great opportunity for higher level language – especially when the older man takes an action, thinking it will make him happier…definitely some hypotheticals and what ifs you could get into!

As always, if you use this, I’d love to see it in action! Tag me on Instagram @srta_spanish, or on Twitter!

Have fun!

  1. This is just perfect for my day one of a new class for adults…it starts on February 14! Thanks so much for sharing your talent and your work.

  2. I love all your resources, the students love the Corre en círculos, and for those who are absent, the digital version is very handy!
