Spring can be a tough time of year! We’re antsy to get outside and enjoy the sun, but sometimes it’s too chilly, wet, or muddy to head outside juuuuust yet. I have a post here where I shared a bunch of Spring themed shorts, but I felt like this activity deserved its own post because I shared some slides for you! Check out this Spring Movie Talk for Spanish class!

What is a Movie Talk?

Movie Talk is a language learning technique developed by Dr. Ashley Hastings. Basically, you play a short, muted video clip while you describe it in comprehensible language for your students.

One of the best parts about a Movie Talk is that you can talk about pretty much anything in the clip. This makes it easy to fit a lot of objectives! If you’re not familiar with a Movie Talk, check out my post here for more info on how to get started!

Spring Movie Talk for Spanish Class – Watch the Video

Spring Movie Talk for Spanish Class

Watch the Clip:

You’re probably wondering which short film I chose for this movie talk! While it is “spring themed” in the sense of spring cleaning, you could certainly use it any time of year during your chores or house unit! Check out the short clip below:

This one definitely has a fun twist at the end! Because of that surprise, I definitely recommend keeping that a secret until you play the full clip for your students for the shock and comedic timing! Let’s look at how you can use this short, :45 second clip in your lesson plan.

Lesson Plan:

  1. Start the class period with your daily start of class routine. This is what mine usually looks like!
  2. Do the weekly routine for the day – these are what I like to do!
  3. Movie Talk using Slides linked below- You can easily just play and pause the video to narrate what is happening, but my screen isn’t super responsive. I love using the screenshots because I know the image is going to be right where I want it!
  4. Watch the full video, with sound. It’s not even a minute long, but it’s great!
  5. Finish the movie talk – pause before the ending slide so you don’t reveal the surprise when you watch!
  6. Do a write & discuss or individual student activity to round out the day.

The slides are editable, so of course feel free to edit for your students’ levels. I kept it to really simple language with Spanish 1s in mind, but I think there’s some great opportunity for higher level language, even your technology unit.

As always, if you use this, I’d love to see it in action! Tag me on Instagram @srta_spanish!
