Students learn about 7 holiday traditions from throughout the Spanish-speaking world, including:

  • El Festival de la Luz
  • La Gritería
  • El Día de las Velitas
  • Las Posadas
  • La Noche de Rábanos
  • El Tió de Nadal
  • Los Reyes Magos

This is a great way to have some fun before winter break while students learn about holiday traditions around the world!

Actividades de Navidad Escape Room Challenge Materials

The great thing about this escape room challenge is that you don’t need any extra materials. There are no locks, no hiding of objects, or any extra prep work. The beauty of this escape room style activity is that it is very low prep. Just make copies, organize your teams, and you’re set! If you would like, you can use the digital lock hosted on Google Forms, but that is optional.

Prep and Materials:

  • Print the reading double-sided for students. Each student will need their own copy as they will likely want to mark it up for some of the close reading challenges.
  • Print the clue recording sheet for students. You can either make a copy for each student or for each pair of students, depending on how you plan to have them work. Cut in half.
  • Make copies of the challenge sheets. You can print them in a packet, double sided, or you can separate them all and grab one at a time for students to work through them piece by piece. If you do have them working in pairs and give it to them as a packet, it’s likely you’ll have at least a few try to divide and conquer instead of working together as a strategy to go quickly.

Optional prep:

  • Print answer keys to have on hand for yourself for reference
  • Make copies of the challenge completion certificate for your winners
  • Make a copy of the digital lock to post for your students to enter their final code
  • Have a small snack or treat to give to challenge winners

How to Play the Actividades de Navidad Escape Room

Split your students into pairs, or have them work individually. I don’t advise small groups for this challenge because they will finish quickly! Students begin with the reading. Once they have read it, they can grab their clue recording sheet and start the first challenge!

As students complete the puzzles, they get closer to winning the challenge and earning their prize and certificate!
