Holidays in Spain Reading Activity & Sub Plan
Students read and discuss holiday traditions in Spain including the lottery, la Nochebuena, la Nochevieja & the grapes, as well as Día de los Reyes Magos in this print and go activity packet. The readings and activities are in English so it’s an easy option for a sub plan, even with your novice students!
This include pictures from one of my trips to Spain – it was so fun to see the Christmas decorations going up around the cities!
Spanish Christmas Coloring Pages
I don’t care HOW packed your curriculum is – sometimes we just want to color! This blog post includes some of my favorite Christmas coloring pages. Several of them are great for an easy December bulletin board!
Free Spanish Christmas Worksheets
As much as I love a calm, low light coloring day with the “fireplace” on (thanks, Youtube!), some classes are not here for chill. If you’ve got a group with some extra holiday wiggles, they will love this free Spanish scavenger hunt game with Christmas vocabulary!
La Navidad y Día de los Reyes Magos Stations for Spanish Class
I LOVE doing stations in my Spanish classroom! Doing stations is a great opportunity to include more than activity, and in this case, we can use stations to talk about more than one holiday tradition!
This post includes several options for station ideas and cultural activities you could include for your secondary Spanish classroom.
Las Velitas
Want to share about a beautiful holiday celebration in Colombia? This lesson plan for Día de las Velitas includes a slide show, mini book, handouts, and a craft to wrap up the lesson!
Another option for teaching about this celebration in Colombia is a comprehensible reading activity! You can use the puzzle for students to read, re-read, and solve the puzzle based on the clues and the code decoder sheet, or you can use the informational reading and comprehension questions for a more traditional class period. Up to you!
Our Lady of Guadalupe Activities for Spanish Class
Our Lady of Guadalupe is a fantastic cultural symbol to teach about, but let’s go even further and share with our students the history of this image and how her feast is celebrated throughout the world! This blog post has ideas for your lesson on Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
Holidays Around the World Lesson Plan for Spanish Class
Got a weird schedule day you need filled? This one day lesson plan covers holiday traditions all over Spanish-speaking countries! I typically recommend it for a 45-50 minute class period. It’s perfect if your students have devices they can use.
Fun Christmas Writing Activity for Spanish Class
Ready for some seasonal fun? Let’s do some creative writing together! In this Roll a Story, students rely on the toss of a die to find out the main elements of their story, then they get creative to fill in the missing details.
Holiday Traditions in Spanish-Speaking Countries
This is my lesson plan for the last day of the semester with my middle school students. We’ve finished semester assessments, and it’s time to do something light, but still soaked in culture for them! It’s a PACKED lesson so you could split this up into multiple days if you have the time for it!
If you only have one day and don’t want to feel rushed, you can cut out an activity for some more breathing room, too.
Create an Ugly Christmas Sweater
Looking for a fun way to celebrate la Navidad in your Spanish class? Add this sweater coloring activity to your Christmas activities and December bulletin board ideas!
Students roll a die to determine elements of their sweater, then design and color it. Finally, they write a short description of their Christmas sweater! Extension activity included for students to read and pair descriptions and their classmates’ sweaters.
Ugly Sweater Reading & Activities
Students complete the gallery walk by reading short descriptions and matching them to the colorful sweaters. Then, they create their own sweaters and write descriptions of their own!
The descriptions emphasize color vocab, “hay”, “tiene”, & Christmas vocab in Spanish! Great for your novice Spanish students. Each description is 3-4 sentences long. This is great for a fun, low prep option before winter break with any of your levels!
Spanish New Year Writing Activity and Craft
I know, I know. DECEMBER activities for Spanish might feel weird to be seeing a new year activity, but hear me out. I like to do a lesson on this tradition before students head out for break. Several times over the years I’ve gotten emails from parents or excited students returning telling me how they did the tradition at home on New Years!
Day before Winter Break Lesson Plan for Spanish
You’re ALMOST there. You’ve almost made it. Break is just around the corner! If you’re here, let’s look at fantastic activities that are low prep and easy to use to share about holiday and cultural traditions with your students. Here’s your low stress day before winter break lesson plan for Spanish class!
Plans for Your First Day Back from Winter Break
One more that might seem a little weird in a December activities for Spanish class list, but this is more like a gift from you to you than it is an activity for your students. I am a big fan of prepping for the first few days back from break before break starts. It makes the time off so much more relaxing!
So, run off a few copies, stack ’em on your desk, then peace out til January!
