Description
Get your students moving with this activity! Students answer the prompt, then find the answer around the room. When they find the answer, they go to it, and complete the next prompt, repeating until they have completed the circle! Some students like to race to see who can finish the loop fastest, others work at their own pace. Students can begin at any prompt and practice, checking their work as they go.

This vocabulary activity can be quite challenging for students because it isn’t just a straight translation! Each prompt is a clue describing the family member in Spanish, so they need to read and comprehend the clue. I personally find this works best after we have been working with the vocabulary for awhile so students are comfortable with the words!
Included:
- Printable student sheet
- Printable puzzle
- Digital version for use with Google Slides
- Instructions for teacher use
- Answer Key
This puzzle includes a printable that’s excellent for getting your students up and moving, as well as a digital variation that is great to assign for absent students or during distance learning! Your students will love this puzzle!

This is a great activity to get students up and moving and it actually requires them to utilize new unit vocabulary correctly to finish the activity. This activity helped me ensure students were actually engaged in their learning instead of just copying down answers from a friend at the last minute. Students always love the opportunity to get up and get moving as well!

Hannah DeJonge –
Love Corre en Circulos to begin with, but the familia version was helpful for my students who struggled with the vocab. I think this is a great tool to teach the vocab.
Ricardo Doylet –
My students and I loved this lesson! It was a great vocabulary review activity. It was really easy to set up and the objective of the lesson was clearly achieved. This resource include an online version which could be very helpful for distance learning. I used the in person version and decided to do it outside (it was a great day to run outside). I believe that doing this activity in the classroom it would be an little confused depending on the size of your room.
I strongly recommend to buy this if you want to have an easy prep with a great learning outcome.
Dale D. –
I used it last week in class with my in-person Spanish One classes and it was a fantastic hit. My students were super-engaged and very eager to finish.
The only trouble my students had was due to their own inattention. If you purchase this assignment you should be prepared. Every once in a while a student would work out the family member and get the wrong gender or put singular when it should be plural (for example, putting “primo” instead of “prima” or “primos”). Depending on the student, I had them go back and sort it out, or I helped them go back and sort it out or I just gave them a random place to re-start and told them carry on.
Highly recommended.
Senora Novales –

SraDebbieB –
I love these Corre en Circulos activities and used them frequently preCovid. I found it a little difficult to help students virtually because it takes some learning to understand how these activities work in person, let alone online. I’m confident there is a better way to use it virtually, I just need to figure it out.
Live Love Spanish –
This is great please make one for all the topics 🙂

Alejandra C. –
LOVE LOVE LOVE doing the Corre en Círculos activity. It really encourages kids to talk to each other in Spanish, translate together and correct each other’s mistakes. This has worked better for me when I place students in pairs or groups. Use it as a competition to see who can finish faster and more accurately!

Senora Larrabee –

Jami Higashi Lee –
My kids loved moving around and challenging themselves. They rarely focus this consistently for this long. The only clue they had trouble with was the one with the “son of my grandparents and brother of my uncle” (some put “mi tío” instead of “mi padre”). I just explained that the answer can’t be a word given in a clue. Please extend this to include extended family too!
Olivia W. –
My students always enjoy Corre en círculos, but this was particularly helpful for a very focused review of these vocabulary words and making sure novice learners are paying close attention to the difference in gender.

This was an awesome activity!!!! Thanks!!
Natalie W. –
This is better done in pairs. Then they can help each other when they misinterpret the vocab. It takes about 40-45 minutes to complete. The students get highly frustrated when they mess up and have to go SO far back to fix their mistake. Many just give up.
Courtney Scherer –
I wish I would have bought them all !

Morgan Bennett –
Great activity to get students moving and thinking. I had students work in groups of two. It helps to demonstrate the activity before beginning. It was a great way to review family and to lead into possessive adjectives. I introduced my students to possessive adjectives through this activity a week before my lesson. They all remembered this activity, and it reinforced the vocabulary and the grammar.
Aventuras Nuevas –
Love the up & moving activity! I found that it was helpful to create a few slides demonstrating the activity for the first time we did it because students had a tough time visualizing how it worked. However, once we got started, it got better.
Maria T. –

My students absolutely love this activity. I was concerned that it could be chaotic in a class with 30 students but it wasn’t and I was amazed that the only talking was related to the activity. My students beg for this activity!

Fun activity for students
Julie D. –
I printed, numbered and laminated this activity. I had my first class complete the activity and they ended up just moving one spot over. My students quickly figured out that they didn’t need to read the prompt all they had to do was move over one and write the answer. I mixed up the numbers (which was confusing for students too) and two prompts could have two answers (one= la hija de mi abuela).
**Please advise as to how I should have set this activity up.
Ashley Mikkelsen –
Hi! There is no need to number the prompts. Essentially, in adding the numbers to the prompts you gave the students the answers because the activity is in figuring out which prompt (the little words) leads to the next sheet (the big word/answer)!
The numbers on the student sheet are only to help the students know how many they need to complete total, and help them realize if they end too early (due to an error or an incorrect answer).
You don’t need the numbers to grade the activity, because the accuracy comes from completing the activity in the correct order – making a circle. To grade this activity, you look at #1 on the answer key, and find where that sentence is on the student sheet. Then, read their answers and verify that the answers go in the same order as the order of the sentences on the answer sheet.
I have updated the activity to provide additional clarification for the prompts that could have more than one answer, as well as added some more notes to the answer key to make this activity clearer! Please re-download for the update. Thank you for your feedback!
