While I did not have time to use this resource, it looks great. I am hoping to use it in the future for 5th graders to practice reading in Spanish.

My students are always so proud of themselves for being able to read the content right at the beginning of the year thanks to all of the cognates. It really gives them confidence.

Number 20 on the student copy asks about the sloth, but number 20 on the answer key has a different question and therefore a different answer.
Ashley Mikkelsen –
Hi Victoria! You can always use the Q&A feature to let me know about a quick fix you need like that. The file has been updated so you can re-download for that page. Thanks!

This is another winner from Srta Spanish. I’ve used this resource several times now and it’s great. The stories are comprehensible and interesting even early on in Spanish 1. The students really liked reading about all the different animals.
Here’s how I used this resource:
Day 1: I posted the reading around the classroom. With a partner, students completed the Data Sheet (we did one reading together as an example first). Had them start the “Un Animal Intersante” page
Day 2: Used “Un Animal Intersante” as a Card Talk to warm up. With readings still posted around the room, students completed the Scavenger Hunt. The plans include options for the handout in Spanish or English. I found it was easier for my novices to complete the Spanish version because the words matched, but because they talked to each other in English (“Has anyone found which animal is the largest?”), I was able to assess their comprehension.
Post-lesson: I made a couple copies and stapled them into books and added them to my class library using the covers included in the lesson plans.

My beginners loved being able to find information to pull out of the reading that they could understand to complete the chart. Lots of cognates, but also some more challenging vocab. The option to have the “glossary” list at the end of each reading made them VERY accessible. Thanks!

I had planned to use this in class for a gallery walk but suddenly, I had to be quarantined. This resource’s flexibility allowed me to continue the class as planned because I was able to switch from a gallery walk to an assignment online. Students found it very engaging! Excellent resource!
