If you’re working on numbers vocabulary with your Spanish classes, there are several ways you can teach them! While you might introduce them and help students gradually master them, sometimes the time frame you have for a unit or pacing guide in a district is short. In that case, you might practice vocab with these numbers in Spanish games!

Numbers in Spanish

When working with novices, it’s common to teach numbers 0-31 first, then work on numbers up to 100. The image above may help as you’re introducing the numbers in Spanish to your students! When I first play numbers in Spanish games with students, I like to leave that vocabulary support on the screen for them!

Corre en Círculos Spanish Scavenger Hunt Game

Corre en Círculos is one of my all time favorites to get students up and moving!
Here’s how to play this game:
- Students can start at any page around the room.
- Read a prompt at the bottom of a starting page.
- Record their answer to the prompt.
- Find their answer on the top of a new page.
- Look at the prompt on the bottom of the new page, record their answer, then find the next sheet.
This continues until students find the prompt that leads them back to where they started (that’s why I call it ‘Círculo’)!

Teaching Numbers in Spanish
As I mentioned at the beginning of this blog post, there’s more ways to teach this vocabulary than with review games! Here are a few more ideas you can add to your lesson plans:
Calendar Talk

Calendar Talk is part of my favorite way to start Spanish class. Here’s a quick overview:
This routine is short, but it’s to the point. Since it is done every day, students get very comfortable with the vocabulary, including days of the week! Learn more about the start of class routine in the blog post here!

Story Based Unit
If you’ve seen my blog post on creating a unit plan for Spanish classes based on a story, you know that I love using stories that are purposefully written to incorporate specific verbs and vocabulary are one of my favorite ways to teach!

This unit plan contains 5 days of lessons and activities to teach days of the week and months vocabulary with your Spanish classes. It includes:
- Presentation for use in Google Slides or PowerPoint (download from Slides) to guide your students through the activities and lessons
- Picture Talk to introduce and reinforce vocabulary and structures used in the story
- Two stories and activities to practice days of the week, numbers, and months with your novices
- Listening activities practice a range of different skills, from recognition to comprehension! Great for novice learners! Both script and recording options included!
*One of the recordings is not a native speaker, one is a native speaker from Spain. - Use the Running Dictation activity to have some fun movement-based practice with the story.
- Games and puzzles to engage your students in a variety of ways while applying their understanding!
- Links to posts explaining the various activities included
- All versions of the student activities included on Google Slides or Google Forms for you to post for absent students to a secured learning platform
- Answer Keys for activities
