Add Real-World Context to Clothing Vocabulary in Spanish
Once students start building confidence with clothing vocabulary in Spanish, you can add in real-world tasks to keep things fresh. One of my favorite ways to level up the unit is to have students “shop” for outfits online or from printed catalogs. Give them a budget and a fictional event to attend. They must find clothing items, describe them using the vocabulary they’ve learned, and explain why they chose them.
This works great as an individual or pair activity and gets students using terms like abrigo, vestido, pantalones cortos, and color descriptions in context. Not only are they practicing clothing vocabulary in Spanish, but they are also tapping into comparison, reasoning, and presentation skills in the target language.
5 Activities for Clothing Vocabulary in Spanish
Activity #1 – La Ropa gallery walk
I love a good gallery walk, and this set has 3 different activities included! Print the character cards in color and use them over and over again!

In the gallery walk, students read the descriptions written in Spanish and match to the person described. In pairs, or small groups, students play Guess Who to practice describing the person they’ve chosen. Finally, students walk and look at the character cards as they write short descriptions of the people in Spanish!
Activity #2 La Ropa Boom Cards
I have shared a whole bunch about Boom Cards, but if you’ve never used them before, they’re basically digital task cards that allow students to practice reading, writing, and listening skills and get instant feedback. They are great!

Activity #3 – QR Code Matching Puzzle
Simple, but fun! Students read the descriptions, pair, then scan to check their work.

Activity #4 – Picture talks
I’ve shared about picture talks before, but this set is one of my favorites! There are 6 different talks with a variety of clothing and colors, plus students love the animals!

Activity #5 – Find someone who
This is one of my favorite speaking activities because it gets students up and moving around, but there’s plenty of support for them!

Create Mini Fashion Shows or Class Polls
Ready to bring the energy up? Try having students create and present their own “look of the day” based on a style prompt. It could be something like “first day of school,” “sports day,” or even “trip to the mountains.” They can draw their outfit, describe it aloud or in writing, and vote on the most creative looks.
This is a fun, low-pressure way to get more speaking and writing reps in while sticking with your goal of practicing clothing vocabulary in Spanish. You can also turn it into a station rotation activity where students rotate through mini challenges like label matching, short readings, and outfit descriptions.
The more variety you give them, the more your students stay engaged and excited—and you get to watch their confidence grow as they bring their Spanish to life in real situations. Let me know if you’d like a printable template for the outfit challenge. I have one I love using!
