Great activity!

I have used these in my spanish 1 class when I start the year with congnates to help build confidence. I put the stories onto slides and added clip art to demonstrate meaning of words I felt needed the extra support. I read it, then students read it aloud, then each student with their copy of it look for the answers to the questions after we discuss using cognates and finding key words in questions. Would recommend.

  50. Mary G –

A good reading task for lower levels early in the year.

  51. Katie L. –

These are well-written stories with good follow up questions. Not only does it introduce Cognates and explain why they’re helpful to language learners, it also includes useful verbs (ir, ver, quiere ser, etc.) that work well with what we’ve been learning at the beginning of the semester. Teaching cognates early on has been so helpful to building my students’ confidence that they can read and understand Spanish. And because they can understand so much of the passage, they were able to decipher words they didn’t know (like ir, ver, quiere ser, etc.). I used this for two 40-min classes.

  52. Elizabeth G. –

I really enjoyed using this resource with my Spanish 1 students. My homeschool tutorial class meets one day a week, and I wanted to get their feet wet with TPRS Spanish methods, and this was the perfect resource for that. It was easy for the kids to comprehend and the drawing aspect of the activity was a hoot to review afterward. We had some goofy elephants, but I was so encouraged knowing that they understood! Thanks for another great resource!

Hi! I always strive to make my resources the best they can be. Can you be more specific in your feedback? This is designed to help novice students feel confident in the early stages of their language learning. You can always shoot me an email at srtaspanishtpt@gmail.com. Thanks!

Love this resource! It can sometimes be hard to make such a simple, beginning of the year concept such as cognates/false cognates engaging, but these activities make it fun for students. These are obviously perfect for the beginning of the year, as sub plans for a non-Spanish speaking sub, or even to use prior to exams in Spanish 1 to remind students not to freak out if they don’t know every single word and to use cognates, context clues, and what they DO know in order to make meaning of a text!

Hi, thanks so much for your feedback! I noticed you marked it down for accuracy and I have two questions for you! 1, do you have the most recent version of the resource? It has been updated! 2, is there anything in particular you feed could be more accurate? Thanks so much for your help to improve this resource!
