Let Your Students Shine with Meaningful Contributions
Want your Hispanic Heritage Month Door Decorating to feel more personal and student-centered? Give your students the spotlight! A great way to do this is by having each student create a “paper tile” that represents an important figure, tradition, or phrase from a Spanish-speaking country. You can assign countries or topics, or let students choose someone they identify with or want to learn more about. Once complete, these colorful pieces can come together to create one big collaborative door display. It is a creative way to bring representation and connection to your Hispanic Heritage Month Door Decorating project, and the final result will make your door pop with authenticity and pride.
You can also integrate QR codes linking to student-created videos or mini-reports, adding a tech twist that turns your door into an interactive learning station. Students love showing off what they’ve learned, and visitors to your classroom will love discovering something new right at the door.

Door Decorations for Hispanic Heritage Month
Monarchs
If you teach about the monarch migration, your students will love this! Laura Alicia shared it in a Facebook group and I thought it was just fantastic. It’s tough to see in this image, but she also included images of members of the Hispanic community who immigrated to the United States on the wings of some of the butterflies. This could be a beautiful and meaningful addition to your Hispanic Heritage Month Door Decorating plans. It not only ties into themes of movement and identity but also gives students a powerful visual connection to stories of immigration. This kind of display fits perfectly with lesson plans on immigration for your high school 9th, 10th grade, 11th grade, and 12th grade students!

Español en el mundo
One of the things I try to highlight with students is how much diversity there is in the Spanish language. The “pop”/”soda”/”coke” comparison just barely skims the surface!

This classroom display is a great way to show your students the array of words that can be found in the Spanish language. Post them all at once, or shift the display to the different words throughout the year. It includes words for kite, popcorn, straw, and pen, along with printable letters to make the display.
Biography research poster projects
I love projects during Hispanic Heritage Month. These research poster projects are a great option for your students, and when they are complete they are a fantastic addition to your Hispanic Heritage Month Door Decorating ideas. Plus, it does not take a lot of hard work on your part to make an awesome door that showcases student work and celebrates Hispanic culture!

Language Jokes
While many times during this month we are focusing on the rich cultural contributions of the Hispanic community, sometimes it is just fun to play with the language with our students. Annie Cantrell shared this image of her door on Facebook and I thought it was great. It is so cute, bright, and cheery, a perfect example of creative Hispanic Heritage Month Door Decorating that brings smiles and sparks curiosity as students walk by.

Even your beginning middle school students will get the joke when they walk up to your classroom and see the door decorations. So fun!
Mujeres son líderes
I usually use this during Women’s History Month, but it would be a great fit for Hispanic Heritage Month, too! It includes short facts along with the posters so your students can learn a bit about these famous Hispanic and Latino Americans included in the download.

Free Holidays research poster project PDF
If you need some more independent work, or a sub plan, this printable holidays research poster project is another great option. This is a free download on my website! Just like with the biography report projects, when students finish you can hang up their posters to make a display or to decorate your door.

Free Hispanic Heritage Month Bulletin Board Printable
The letters pictured in the above image are a free download in my freebie library for newsletter subscribers! They make a super simple door decoration all by themselves.

If you’re already a newsletter subscriber, here is the link to the Freebie Library.
Trivia Questions
This is a fun way to set up an interactive decoration for your classes! Just be warned you might have students pausing in front of your door to check it out! It includes 100 printable questions. You could play a few each week, then add them to your door, or just hang them all and let them do it during independent work time or as a fast finisher.

Mini Biography Posters
I love gallery walks and there are a ton of ways you can use them in your classroom, but this is probably the simplest! This download includes 24 short readings celebrating famous Hispanics from pop stars to athletes, scientists, and more!

Collaborative Posters
If you’re looking for a great team-building activity, collaborative posters are perfect! La Profe Plotts has several of these available to download and they’re perfect for your middle school or high school classes to complete together.

Flags of Spanish-speaking Countries
We couldn’t talk about decorations for Hispanic Heritage Month without including the flags of Spanish-speaking countries! Here are a few ideas for you. The first is a simple, colorful display with the countries’ flags, from Argentina to El Salvador to Venezuela!

You can also make a display out of banners your students color to go with, or to line the hallway leading up to your door!

Next, I found these examples on Pinterest, but they didn’t link to a source, so if you know the classrooms these belong to, please let me know. I would guess it is a Hispanic Heritage classroom as they have pictures of their Hispanic students saying, “Nuestra herencia hispana” and flags for the nationalities represented by their students.
I think that’s a fun way to recognize the different Hispanic and Latino communities represented in your school.
If you want to have deeper conversations about identity with your Hispanic Heritage learners, check out this project from Profe Nygaard. It’s a series of lesson plans and reflections about that feeling of being part of multiple cultures and celebrating both!

Keep It Easy, Colorful, and Culturally Rich
If you’re crunched for time but still want to show off, don’t worry. Hispanic Heritage Month Door Decorating does not have to be complicated to be impactful. Try using pre-printed flag banners for each Spanish-speaking country and ask students to color them during your first five minutes of class over a few days. Add a simple title like “Celebramos Nuestra Herencia” across the top of your door and let the flags speak for themselves.
For a quicker win, use printable templates that focus on famous quotes from Hispanic leaders, short biographies, or “Did You Know?” facts. These can easily be swapped throughout the month to keep your classroom door feeling fresh and dynamic without needing a total redo.
