Spanish Weather Vocabulary

This activity includes the following weather words:

  • ¿Qué tiempo hace?
  • Hace buen tiempo.
  • Hace mal tiempo.
  • Hace sol.
  • Hace viento.
  • Está nublado.
  • Está lloviendo.
  • Hay tormenta.
  • Está nevando.
  • Hace calor.
  • Hace fresco.

While there are many new vocabulary words you could introduce with el tiempo, el clima, y las estaciones, you can always start with a shorter list of Spanish vocabulary like the one above and add more weather and seasons vocabulary as you go through the unit.

Spanish Weather Worksheet #1 Running Dictation

Running Dictation is a great way to get students up and moving while using the Spanish language! Print and cut the Spanish expression slips, then hang them on the wall in the hallway or in the room. Next, your Spanish students will work in pairs or groups of three as they practice. One student will be the “runner” and the other the “writer”, trading jobs halfway through. Here’s how it works:

  1. The “runner” goes to a slip of paper on the wall and reads the phrase, trying to memorize it.
  2. The “runner” returns to their partner and says the phrase to them.
  3. The “writer” records the phrase on their printable worksheet.
  4. Continue until halfway, then switch roles.
  5. Students complete the activity, then check to be sure they have the correct answer recorded for each.

I have students do a follow up activity as independent work. Students practice the phrases by illustrating the sentences they recorded during the activity.

Spanish Weather Worksheet #2 Classic Dictation

Classic Dictation is great for independent practice or a sub plan where students will continue working through their Spanish lessons while you’re gone. In Classic Dictation, your sub will play the included audio file, or you can upload it to a secured learning management system, like Google Classroom or Canvas. Then, students will listen to the audio file and record it in Spanish. On the line below the Spanish sentence, they’ll write the English translations.

Spanish Weather Worksheet #3 Read and Draw

This is a the simplest of the Spanish worksheets for your students, but sometimes when you’re working with a new language simple is what you want! Students will read the Spanish weather expressions and draw a picture to illustrate them.

Spanish Weather Worksheet #4 Listen, Write, and Draw

The final option in these review Spanish weather worksheets is a combination of the other options! Students will listen to the included audio, or you can read from the script. They will record the sentence in Spanish, then illustrate the sentences in the boxes.

Spanish Weather Worksheet #5 Writing

The last in this Spanish worksheet set is a writing prompt! This is a great follow up to any of the activities listed above as students shift from input to output. They are to write sentences in Spanish and then take turns listening to a partner and writing the sentences their partner reads to them. This is a great tool to help students work on their pronunciation and be clear as they communicate with each other!
