  1. Sarai R. –

My students were able to complete a well organized research project.

  2. Therese C. –

I’m so glad I purchased this resource — it saved me so much time for prepping this project, and the students really liked it. Some struggle with powerpoint presentations, and I think this was a great mostly tech-free option as we learn about good research skills.

  3. Anjali C. –

I expected there to be some biographies that students could read and use to fill out the template. I wanted to make this a tech-free activity. It wasn’t clear to me that no biographies were included. This should be made more clear. I’m disappointed.

    • Ashley Mikkelsen –

Hi Anjali,For reference, here is the list of included things from the description:❁ 40 B&W Templates with names filled in – Assign people or let students select from the options provided❁ 1 Blank Template – Allow students to choose who to research!❁ Optional reverse side of the poster to add any additional information and works cited❁ ALL OPTIONS are included in both Spanish and English!!Nowhere in that list does it mention biographies for students to read. As you look through the images on the cover, thumbnails, and previews, there are no reading passages pictured. The typed description references students researching and completing the poster templates. I always try to make things clear so you know what is included in your download. I’d love to hear what would have made this listing crystaline for you. Thanks!

  56. Senorita Charles –

    Great worksheet!

  57. Amanda Hoffmann –

I honestly wasn’t impressed with this resource. I used it 3 times and all 3 times found it unsatisfactory. Some of the people are inappropriate and others are difficult to research. Some of the information is not the easiest for me to find let alone a middle schooler. I was not impressed and will no longer be using it.

    • Ashley Mikkelsen –

Hi Amanda! Thank you for your feedback. I know all school settings are different and so I try to be transparent with who is included in the project with the list available in the description of the resource. There is also the blank page for you or your students to choose a different person entirely if you would rather. I always recommend having a school media specialist come in to assist your students with research – they’re the experts and it’s wonderful to have another set of hands guiding your students as they dig into information about the people they are researching. If they aren’t available to come in, I usually just reach out via email and ask if the school or district has any specific tools they recommend for researching. Many times I’ve learned that my school had a subscription to a service or site that I’d never heard of before that was quite helpful! Thank you again for taking the time to leave feedback!

My students were able to learn about Afro Latinos that they were not aware of as being latinos.

  65. jocelyn F. –

    great resource

  66. PAULA CLEMENTE –

Really fun way to introduce students to Afro Latino. As some of the comments, I wish it came with a list at the beginning and with an intro about Afrolatinos. But it is a great resource and its ready to go!

    • Ashley Mikkelsen –

I’ve added a list of the people included in this resource! Thank you for your feedback!

  67. Profe Millard –

I’m using this resource as a supplement to a cultural day on Afrolatinidad for Black History Month. My advanced class loves learning about new people and different cultures, so this is perfect for them! I do wish there was a brief overview of each person included so that there was more information for the students to see who they might be interested in. Overall, this is an excellent resource!

    • Ashley Mikkelsen –

    Gracias!

  70. Jennifer H. –

This is an easy resource for teachers and high engagement for students. 2 things: I wish there was a complete list fo people at the beginning of the packet instead of having to thumb through everything AND also some background about Afro Latino for those students who do not know about the term. Minor problems! 🙂

Great resource! Very informative and easy to understand!

  78. Terwill S. –

Overall my level 1 Spanish students enjoyed the resource and I would recommend. I would like to suggest that accomplished afrolatinos in other fields be added to balance out the abundance of celebrities (singers, athletes, etc). My more advanced language students researched their own person. Some of the people were very difficult to find their verified bio online.

This is a great activity to introduce Afro-latinos and to review the latin countries, flags, and major cities. I used the English forms with Spanish 1 and the Spanish forms with Spanish 2. Students enjoyed the activity and learning something that they did not know about people they have heard about. There are a few controversial people as well so review all the people before assigning.
