Future tense in Spanish is something we didn’t cover until upper levels, but simple future tense in Spanish is another story! I start including that almost right off the bat because it’s so easy to form. Let’s look at some fun activities for simple future tense in Spanish!
Simple Future Tense Formula
This tense is so easy for students to use. When doing a grammar pop-up, I use the simple future tense formula “ir + a + infinitive” and then give them plenty of examples. Since we use “ir” a lot as a high frequency verb, they get into it quickly!
Simple Future Tense Examples
To form the simple future tense in Spanish, students conjugate the verb “ir” to match the subject, then add “a” and the infinitive to say what the person is going to do. Here are some simple future tense examples:
- Yo voy a ir al gimnasio.
- Tú vas a comer el almuerzo.
- Ella va a dormir.
- Él va a caminar en el parque.
- Nosotros vamos a estudiar.
- Los estudiantes van a aprender.
Looking at the examples, it’s easy for students to see the simple future tense formula “ir + a + infinitive” in action!

Weekend Chat Routine for Simple Future Tense in Spanish
Weekend Chat is one of my favorite daily routines for Spanish class! Check out a quick overview and introduction here:
When using weekend chat to introduce and practice simple future tense in Spanish, you’ll use it on Fridays, or the last day of the week! Students share a little about their weekend plans. I love to scaffold this visually with some options for them, and we’ll expand on those through the year!
Scrambled Sentences
Scrambled sentences are a great way to get your students thinking and talking about the language collaboratively! Groups or partners work together to reassembled the scrambled sentence while working on the targeted structures. I personally love using scrambled sentences when there are multiple “pieces” to consider, like with the verb gustar, reflexive verbs, and simple future tense in Spanish!
Boom Cards
Boom Cards are one of my favorite ways to do independent practice. They work great for stations, warm up, and homework. They are similar to Google Slides, but they are auto grading and give instant feedback. They’re awesome!
This set of simple future tense in Spanish practice includes several ways to practice. Students will:

- Unscramble sentences to say what different people are going to do
