Daily Routine Reflexive Verbs Spanish Scavenger Hunt Game

The ¡Corre en Círculos! Scavenger Hunt Game is one of my all time favorite options for Spanish verb practice. Students look at a prompt on the first page, write their answer down, then find it on another clue card on the wall. This continues until they arrive at the first card they started with! This is a great way to get students up and moving while they work with the language. This is a great way to practice with the correct use of reflexive verbs.

This set includes two versions: one where students conjugate the verbs given, and one where students see a subject pronoun and an image. This way they practice conjugating and target language vocabulary all at once!

Students read, “Después de ducharte, tú cepillarse el pelo.” on the prompt and conjugate cepillarse for the correct verb form.

In the example above, students see an example sentence and a reflexive verb in the infinitive form. Students will take the subject of the sentence and conjugate the reflexive verb in the present tense to complete the sentence on their answer sheet. Then, they’ll look for the conjugated verb on another clue card on the wall and continue until they reach the end of the scavenger hunt!

In the second version students see a subject pronoun and an image illustrating a part of the daily routine. For example, if they saw “yo” and a picture of a toothbrush, they would record “me cepillo los dientes” on their answer sheet before hunting for it on a clue card around the walls of the classroom!

Here are the body parts and personal hygiene words included in the scavenger hunt, as well as the verbs included:

  • La cara
  • El desodorante
  • Los dientes
  • El pelo
  • Las piernas
  • Acostarse
  • Afeitarse
  • Bañarse
  • Cepillarse
  • Ducharse
  • Lavarse
  • Maquillarse
  • Ponerse
  • Secarse

There is also a Spanish vocabulary sheet with the images for each prompt in case students need some vocabulary support to connect the image and reflexive verb meaning. Students will use the Spanish reflexive verbs along with the body parts and personal hygiene words to complete the scavenger hunt!

How to Set it Up:

Choose the version of the scavenger hunt you would like students to play, then print, cut the sheets in half and hang them on the walls in your room in random order. If you put them up in order it totally ruins the game! You can also use both versions at once. If that’s the case, print them in two different colors for students to complete one and then the other. There are student handouts included, but I most often just have students complete the scavenger hunt on a blank sheet of paper to save on copies, unless they need a refresher on the vocabulary included in the puzzle.

You can use the digital version, too!

If you are a traveling teacher and don’t have much time as you move between rooms, I highly recommend having your students help you get the clue cards hung up! Just put them on a chair or stool in front of the door along with some tape and ask them to help you as they come in the room. Easy peesy!

How to Play:

This scavenger hunt style game is a great way to get students up and moving while they are working on verb conjugation. They have to be careful to write the correct answer or they will break the loop. Here’s a short tutorial for how you can introduce the activity to your middle school and high school students!

My middle school and high school classes love this option! However, there are times where we need a different version, or I want to offer independent work to a student for additional practice. If that’s the case, I use the set of Slides or the mini puzzle option instead! In the digital version on Google Slides, students drag and drop the different Google Slides to line up the correct conjugation.

In the mini puzzle option, you’ll print the clue cards at a reduced size. This is easy with a few clicks! Then, students review verb conjugations by matching conjugation forms with the subject pronoun and infinitive until they create a little circle on their desks. Here’s a quick explanation for how to print the clue cards mini!

Of course, those are just my 3 most used ways to play with these cards. Check out 7 more ways to play ¡Corre en Círculos! in my blog post here!

Fast Finisher Options

When playing ¡Corre en Círculos! with my classes, I like to have a fast finisher ready to use! Students will finish the scavenger hunt game all at different times so it’s nice to have an independent work option ready for them. Here are some of my favorites for this lesson:

  • Have students write out a complete daily routine (real or fictional), using the Spanish vocabulary sheet or clue cards to help them
  • Play with Spanish conversation cards to ask rounds of questions to a partner or in a small group
  • Practice more with the reflexive verbs in Spanish using a maze puzzle worksheet
