If you are working on “gustar” with your students, there’s a lot of options you could use in your lessons. I thought I’d share a round up of resources, lesson plans, videos, and more you could use throughout your unit to reinforce the verb with these gustar Spanish class activities!
Reading Activities for Gustar
Gallery Walk
It’s no secret that I love doing gallery walks and reading stories with classes!
This gallery walk set includes 14 short readings about kids and their hobbies written in comprehensible language. The readings include vocabulary supports at the bottom of the page to help your students be successful.
It also includes a scaffolded writing activity that has students compare their free time activities to sentences in the activity, making changes so they are true for them. Lots of great ways to practice!
Story and Activities
This short story is a great way to practice gustar & hobbies vocabulary in Spanish with your students!
This resource includes a short reading about a girl spending Saturday doing her favorite things in comprehensible language. The reading includes vocabulary supports at the bottom of the page to help your students be successful. You could even use this story as the foundation for your whole unit!
Videos for Gustar
¿Te Gusta El Helado De Brócoli? | Canciones Infantiles | Super Simple Español – This video is slow and cute. You could pause it and ask your class questions, or just enjoy it!
¿Qué te gusta hacer? – this is a video I would probably play while students were coming into class, or while they’re doing a gallery walk like this one!

Card Talk – Another great option to get in a lot of practice with gustar is to do a card talk! I explain more about how to do this in your classroom in this Youtube video about the first day of school, but you can really do this at any point in the year.
¡Corre en Círculos! is one of my all time favorite games. You can play it a whole bunch of ways, but my go to is to hang the cards up and complete it in a scavenger hunt style puzzle. Grab a pre-made game set here for gustar and infinitives!
Quizlet Set – Quizlet is great for playing and practicing with the vocabulary. I particularly like to play Quizlet Live and any of its variations!
Scrambled Sentences – Scrambled sentences are a great way to get your students thinking and talking about the language collaboratively! Groups or partners work together to reassembled the scrambled sentence while working on the targeted structures.
Card talk isn’t the only option to get your students speaking! Conversation cards are one of my favorite speaking activity options to use in class. Students can use them in stations, as warm up, an exit ticket, or just practice with a partner. They’re super flexible! Click here to download the set of conversation cards for gustar.
This set of dictation activities is possibly the most useful option I have in this list! Print and hang the sentences for running dictation, or use the included audio file to let your students work individually! Click here to download the set. It’s PERFECT for sub plans during this unit!
