Are you working on subject pronouns in Spanish with your classes? Personal pronouns in Spanish can be tricky for Spanish students, but with time and input they will be using the correct Spanish subject pronoun with ease! Check out this Spanish subject pronouns practice for your middle school and high school classes.
List of Subject Pronouns in Spanish
- yo
- tú
- vos Latin America
- él
- ella
- usted
- nosotros
- nosotras
- vosotros Spain
- vosotras Spain
- ellos
- ellas
- ustedes
Note that the feminine forms end in “a” while masculine form of each end in “o”. The plural form of the subject pronouns end in “s”. As noted above, the “vos” form is generally used in South and Latin America, while the “vosotros” form is used in Spain. For example, if you are addressing a group of females, you might use the “vosotras” if you were in Spain, but ustedes, in the rest of the world!
If you like to have your students do conjugation charts when learning verb conjugations, you can also create a conjugation chart with just the Spanish subject pronouns that they can use for reference in their notes. This helps set them up to be familiar with the chart when they work on conjugating the verb form to match the correct subject pronoun. Students can record the English counterparts in the chart instead of the forms of the conjugated verb.
If you refer to the perspectives as first person, second person, and so on, you can also put that label in the chart!
Spanish Subject Pronouns Worksheet Practice
Let’s get to the conjugation practice! This subject pronoun Spanish worksheet includes 2 different mazes for los pronombres personales de sujeto.
Included pages:
- 4 Maze Puzzle Pages
- Answer Key
- Digital option of the mazes for use with Google Slides
- Student instructions for how to complete the maze
- Teacher instructions for how to assign via Google Classroom
This is a great resource for student practice with subject pronouns in Spanish before conjugating verbs for the subject of a sentence! There’s a short tutorial for students on how to complete the maze, and you can choose if you want them to just find the correct answer to find the way through the maze or use the extended version to get additional practice with the Spanish pronouns.
If you would like, you can give your students a quick review chart on one side, and copy a maze on the other side of the page, double sided. This way, you can use a more traditional review before getting into the puzzle after a short grammar lesson, and save the second exercise worksheet for stations, a warm up, or even an interactive quiz one day! It works well as a short quiz to formatively assess your students and identify those who need additional support.
How to Play:
To use this subject pronoun Spanish worksheet in your lessons, either print and make copies, or assign the digital version on Google Slides for students to complete. Pick version A or version B for each of the two mazes included. Both versions give students instant feedback through built in incorrect paths. Students will choose the correct answers through the maze, answering a question, choosing a path, and completing the following question until they reach the end.
In the extended version, students go back to each box they did not use to solve the maze and write in the correct answers. This can give students a tough time at first if they miss the line in the instructions that reminds them not to use the options on the paths around the box for step 2! Those paths use the incorrect answers to help students make the right choice through the maze the first time!
Students need to go back through the boxes and write in the correct answer and give a short explanation. This could be as simple as writing in what it should be and that it isn’t the option on the path.
